The idea of overlanding is to travel from point A to point B with everything contained in your vehicle. Usually, these trips take you off the paved path and into the wilderness. The base to being able to carry everything on your truck is a rack. This rack can be used as a platform for your tent and recovery gear. There are many different styles and shapes for these systems.
For my rack, I wanted to keep my hardcover on the truck so I can still store and lock my gear in the bed. This gave me some problems because many of the other racks attach by simply sitting on your bed rails. I had to make anchor ports and stands to allow the rack to sit down in the anchor ports.
The Truck Rack is the first in many projects I have planned for my truck. In the coming months, I have planned to design and build my own rooftop tent that will attach to the Truck Rack. I am also going to be installing lights in the square plates on the back as well as side panels to attach gas cans, tools and recovery gear. The last piece I am going to do is a full custom rear bumper. This project is going to take me about a year to complete but will be a great learning process for me.
